Born in Hilo, he was a retired crane loader operator for the former Hamakua Sugar Co., longtime chairman for ILWU Unit 1106, president of Laupahoehoe Pensioners Club, member of North Hilo Community Council, Hawaiian Civic Club of Laupahoehoe and U.S. Marine Corps veteran.
